LA SKINS FEST ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH ANIMATION WORKSHOP


NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH ANIMATION WORKSHOP

The LA Skins Fest, a Native American film festival, announced today they are launching the Native American Youth Animation Workshop taking place December 16th and 17th, 2019. This workshop is in partnership with Otter Media brands, Crunchyroll, Fullscreen and Rooster Teeth

The Native American Youth Animation Workshop is an intensive workshop that offers Native American youth new opportunities in animation. This lab is designed to offer genuine access for Native Americans interested in learning and entering the field of animation.


  “Storytelling is vital to Native American identity. Animation is a strong tool to tell our stories with an authentic indigenous vision.  This workshop will train the next generation of Native American artists and further enhance our community’s voice in film, television and new media.” Stated Patricia Gomes, Executive Director of the LA SKINS FEST.

The LA SKINS FEST is working with community-based organizations to have several promising Native American youth participate in a two day intensive workshop. The workshop participants will work with professional animation software to create advanced 3D animated characters, learn movement and build new worlds. The program will offer mentorship from seasoned professionals so participants may learn the full experience of producing animation.

This workshop is accompanied with studio visits to partnering entities that can offer a genuine experience in new animation techniques. The purpose of the lab is to further develop the skills of Native American youth and prepare them for future employment in the industry.

The Native American Youth Animation Workshop was created in accordance with the LA Skins Fest’s mission to improve media portrayals of Native Americans and to increase the number of Native Americans employed in all facets of the media industry.

The Native American Youth Animation Workshop is supported by Otter Media brands, Crunchyroll, Fullscreen and Rooster Teeth.

The LA Skins Fest is a Native American arts initiative that offers an annual film festival now entering its thirteenth year, a concert that showcases contemporary Native musicians and year round development opportunities for emerging Native American actors, writers, and directors.

The LA Skins Fest is a project of the Barcid Foundation; a non-profit organization that focuses on multimedia programming in indigenous communities.
