SANTA FE, N.M. — Novelist George RR Martin, through his Literary Fund, recently established one $15,000 and two $5,000 scholarships for students seeking a BFA at IAIA in Cinematic Arts & Technology.
The deadline for one of the two $5,000 scholarships – for an eligible incoming freshman or transfer student – has been extended to June 1st, 2019 at 8:00 am.
To qualify, the student must demonstrate a passion for story-telling. Also, in addition to completing the on-line scholarship application, they’ll need to submit a story sample (or script) and bio. For more information, or to apply, visit www.iaia.edu/newcomer.
The GRRM Literary Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee will complete their selections, and the recipients of all three scholarships will be announced at the IAIA Annual Scholarship Dinner and Auction on August 14, 2019 at the La Fonda hotel.
As Martin remarked at the press conference announcing the scholarships: “….I still would have gone to college, but probably not at Northwestern…” without scholarship support. He also shared a quote from a writer that influenced him in his youth, Robert A. Heinlin: “You can never pay back the people who helped you when you were starting out, so you have to pay it forward…” This, said Martin, is one of the main drivers of his decision to initiate the scholarships in his name.
IAIA President Dr. Robert Martin (Cherokee) commented that “I am extremely grateful for George’s support of IAIA’s film program and our students by establishing these scholarships — reflecting his value for education that acknowledges the huge difference that scholarships can make in promoting student success”.
