NYT: Elizabeth Warren Apologizes to Cherokee Nation for DNA Test

NEW YORK — The New York Times on Friday, February 1, 2019, reported that Sen. Elizabeth Warren called Principal Chief Bill John Baker on Thursday to apologize for taking a DNA test that revealed she has some Cherokee blood.

Warren, who last month formed an exploratory committee to run for the Democratic party’s presidential nomination in 2020.

“On Thursday, Ms. Warren called Bill John Baker, principal chief of the Cherokee Nation, to apologize for the DNA test, said Julie Hubbard, a spokeswoman for the tribe. She called it a “brief and private” conversation,” according to the New York Times.
