SANTA FE — Navajo Nation President-elect Jonathan Nez and Vice President-elect Myron Lizer congratulate Honorable Michelle Lujan Grisham, who was sworn-in to serve as the 32nd Governor of New Mexico during a small private ceremony held in the Capitol rotunda shortly after midnight on Jan. 1 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A public inaugural ceremony was also held on Tuesday afternoon at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center.

“We join many of our Navajo people in congratulating Honorable Michelle Lujan Grisham for a hard fought victory to become our next governor for the great state of New Mexico. Working together, the Nez-Lizer administration looks forward to meeting with you and your cabinet members to build a brighter and stronger future for the Navajo people and New Mexico,” said President-elect Nez, who endorsed Governor Grisham during her campaign.

Governor Grisham served in the U.S. House of Representatives for New Mexico’s 1st District for three terms. She resigned as a member of congress moments before taking the oath of office for the Office of the Governor at midnight.

“Governor Grisham served with great honor and compassion as a member of congress and I’m confident she will continue to be a great leader for all people of New Mexico. We look forward to working with her on issues that are important to the Navajo Nation such as capital outlay projects, the Tribal Infrastructure Fund, road projects, public safety and telecommunications improvements, gaming issues, education, and many others,” added President-elect Nez.

Vice President-elect Lizer said he is anxious to work with Governor Grisham on a wide array of issues, particularly exploring economic opportunities in which the state can partner with the Navajo Nation to create revenues, jobs, and income for Navajo families.

Governor Grisham began her first four-year term as Governor on January 1, 2019.
