BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Northwest Indian College community is mourning the loss of treasured friend of Northwest Indian College and the Northwest Indian College Foundation, Marvin Oliver. Mr. Oliver, a well-known artist, was 73.

The Northwest Indian College issued the following statement:

Our dear friend Marvin Oliver, Quinault, was an extraordinary artist who impacted countless generations. We have fond memories of Marvin, who often attended our annual tl’aneq Cultural Arts Gala and donated art in support of our Native American students.

Earlier this year, we had the honor of receiving “Raven’s Journey” from Marvin, a serigraph which depicted Raven flying up to the sky in transformation. Marvin also designed the logo for the Northwest Indian College Foundation in support of the work of the NWIC Foundation.

Marvin’s art pieces are timeless, their stories enrich us, and speak to our hearts. On behalf of Northwest Indian College and the Northwest Indian College Foundation, we want to extend our most heartfelt condolences to Marvin’s family. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
