BILLINGS, Mont. — A Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s march is planned for this Friday, April 5, 2019 in Billings, Montana.

The march is being organized by the Montana State University Billings Native American Achievement Center, Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders, and the Native American Development Center.

The march is intended to bring awareness to the tragic number of Indigenous women who are missing or who were murdered. According to a National Criminal Justice Reference Service grantee report, “some counties have rates of murder against American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) women that are over 10 times the national average,” while in Billings, there are at least 29 MMIW cases, as reported by the Urban Indian Health Institute MMIW report.

The march will begin on Friday at 10 a.m.  at 2630 Normal Ave., and will end at the Yellowstone County Courthouse lawn, located at 217 N. 27 Street, where speeches will be given on this critical issue.

Participants are encouraged to bring signs and posters and to wear red ribbon skirts, regalia, hats or shoes.
