Mark Charles: “You cannot discover lands already inhabited”

WASHINGTON — The first sentence of Mark Charles book, “Unsettling Truths – The Ongoing Dehumanizing Legacy of the Doctrine of Discovery,” reads: “You cannot discover lands already inhabited.”

The first chapter of “Unsettling Truths” was released online by InterVarsity Press on Monday on Columbus Day, the national holiday or Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which is preferred by Native Americans across Indian Country.

Charles, a tribal citizen of the Navajo Nation, announced on May 30, 2019 he is running for president of the United States in 2020.

Charles is one of the country’s leading experts on the Doctrine of Discovery.

“Unsettling Truths – The Ongoing Dehumanizing Legacy of the Doctrine of Discovery” will be released in November.
