Join the Celebration – Ramapough Lenape Win Settlement – Free Live Stream Documentary and Discussion on Their Right to a Prayer Land – July 9

STONY POINT, N.Y.    On Tuesday, July 9 at 7PM EDT, join a free live stream screening of the documentary, Keepers of the Pass about Ramapough Lenape and their right to a prayer land is available by logging in on July 9 at 7PM at https://zoom.us/j/765017212. Audiences will be able to view the documentary and participate in a streamed panel discussion with tribal members on recent final settlement with New Jersey’s Township of Mahwah that favors the Ramapough. Millions of dollars in fines were dropped and religious icons on the prayer land can remain.

The film covers the two-year ordeal brought upon the Ramapough Lenape tribe and the right to pray on land it owns across the road from a wealthy private community that did not want them there. The Ramapough Lenape land is called the Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp. Tribal members were threatened, and their reputations publicly attacked using the media and the courts in a powerful $350,000 public relations campaign.

The discussion that follows the half hour screening will include Ramapough Lenape members sharing solutions to potentially help others across the country. Ramapough Chief Dwaine Perry says of actions against the tribe: “The Polo Club has manipulated the Town of Mahwah to fine us until we are forced to sell the land for pennies on the dollar,”

Ironically, the private community of multiple thousand square foot homes is called, “The Ramapo Hunt and Polo Club. It uses the ancient spelling of the Ramapough Natives, whose spelling was changed and the original usurped by colonial-era settlers for governmental entities. The Polo Club lost the legal case and has yet to take an appeal. The Polo Club is not part of this recent settlement.
