Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) Appoints Danyelle Means Director of Institutional Advancement

SANTA FE, N.M. — IAIA President Dr. Robert Martin (Cherokee) has announced the appointment of Danyelle Means (Oglala Lakota) as the school’s Director of Institutional Advancement — additionally, she was also named Executive Director of the IAIA Foundation. In these roles, she will help work to further public understanding and recognition of IAIA and its important mission to empower creativity and leadership in Native Arts and cultures through higher education, life-long learning, and outreach. Means started at IAIA on March 25, 2019 as the interim Director of Institutional Advancement.

Means is an enrolled tribal member of the Oglala Lakota Nation of South Dakota. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and French from the University of South Dakota and will complete a Master of Arts in Museum Studies this summer from Marist College/Instituto Lorenzo de’ M Medici, Florence, Italy.  Danyelle’s professional experience includes working with the National Museum of American Indian (NMAI), Peabody Essex Museum, Marist College, and the Kupferberg Holocaust Center, Queensborough Community College CUNY, NY.
IAIA President Martinremarked: “I am pleased to announced that Danyelle K. Means has been selected as IAIA’s permanent Director of Institutional Advancement. As our interim Director of Institutional Advancement for the past five months, Danyelle’s commitment and enthusiasm to IAIA’s mission and students have been instrumental in her successful work with the IAIA community, donors, boards, and foundations.  She has also provided exceptional leadership in planning for our annual gala to raise scholarship funds for our students.”
