Merry Christmas

WINDOW ROCK — The 23rd Navajo Nation Council brought the holiday spirit to Navajo elders this week, as they along with Legislative Branch staff members delivered turkeys to senior centers across the Navajo Nation.

“The 23rd Navajo Nation Council is showing our appreciation to our elders this holiday season. We hope the turkey donations bring joy and smiles to their faces as they enjoy the holidays with their families,” said Speaker LoRenzo Bates (Nenahnezad, Newcomb, San Juan, Tiis Tsoh Sikaad, Tse’Daa’Kaan, Upper Fruitland).

Over the weekend, Council Delegate Amber Kanazbah Crotty (Beclabito, Cove, Gadi’i’áhi/To’Koi, Red Valley, Tooh Haltsooi, Toadlena/Two Grey Hills, Tsé ałnáoz’t’I’í) also spread the holiday spirit to her local chapters by distributing toys to children and families for the holidays.

“The holidays are really about family, spending time with one another, with our grandparents and our children to show them that we love and appreciate them,” said Delegate Crotty. “It’s a wonderful feeling to help bring joy and smiles to the faces of our elders and our children in our communities, especially those that are less fortunate than others.”

The 23rd Navajo Nation Council also sends its appreciation to all of the Navajo Nation’s law enforcement officers, firefighters, and medical personnel who will continue working and serving the Navajo people throughout the holidays.

“Our first responders have very challenging jobs. They deal with difficult situations each and every day and they don’t get a break during the holidays. To them, we say thank you for your great service and we continue to remember you in our prayers,” added Speaker Bates.

Council Delegate Kee Allen Begay, Jr. (Low Mountain, Many Farms, Nazlini, Tachee/Blue Gap, Tselani/Cottonwood), a U.S. Army veteran, also took time to honor and remember the military men and women serving our country around the world.

“Our Navajo people have a long history of honorable military service. Many of our own Diné people serve in the Armed Forces in every part of the world and they’re not able to be with their families in the holidays. To them, we say thank you and we will continue to pray for you.”

“The 23rd Navajo Nation Council wishes all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Please celebrate safely and responsibly with your families and friends,” Speaker Bates added.
