Tribes Taking Action to Advance & Protect Sovereignty at the NCAI 2019 Mid Year Conference & Marketplace

SPARKS, Nev.  The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) is honored to be a guest of the Western Region tribal nations for the 2019 Mid Year Conference & Marketplace (Mid Year) on June 24-27, 2019 at the Nugget Casino Resort, in Sparks, Nevada.

NCAI LogoAs NCAI celebrates 75 years of serving the broad interests of tribal nations, this year’s Mid Year Conference theme: Tribes Taking Action reflects on the lessons learned in past seven decades, giving tribal nations a forum to develop a collective voice to protect and advance tribal sovereignty.

NCAI is proud to host the Pre Conference Data Institute and the marquee session, the 14th Annual Tribal Leader Scholar Forum (TLSF) with the NCAI Policy Research Center (PRC) at Mid Year. The TLSF focuses on research and data that helps tribal nations take action on policy and engage in strategic decision-making for stronger futures for their communities. Event highlights and key conversations include:

Census 2020 – American Indians and Alaska Natives are considered part of the hard to count population. The TLSF and the U.S. Census Bureau will facilitate key conversations around Census 2020 and Get Out the Count for Indian Country.

Climate Action – In conjunction with the launch of NCAI’s Climate Action Task Force, this session will examine the role of data in informing and driving the design and implementation of strategic climate action approaches across Indian Country.

Juvenile Justice – This breakout will focus on the current state of tribal juvenile justice, how tribal nations can develop partnerships with States to help tribal youth, and changes in federal policy.
